Kalangala Holiday Packages

Information coming from the Ssese Islands archipelago is that ferry services from Entebbe to Kalangala in Lake Victoria – the world’s second largest freshwater lake, has been put back by the Uganda Ministry of Works and Transport.
MV Kalangala was withdrawn from service and sent to Mwanza in Tanzania for maintenance and repairs earlier last year. Resort owners and travellers thought this would take few months, and the ship would be ready to resume services between Entebbe pier and the beautiful Ssese Island group.
The delayed restoration of the ferry, prompted anger and disappointment among travelers to and from the Ssese Islands but also the business owners, in particular those offering accommodation services to visitors that the main government owned ferry MV Kalangala continued to be out of service. This meant that travelers had to spend more time on the Kampala – Masaka road to access the Islands.
Early this month, MV Ssese – the second passenger and vehicle ferry connecting Kalangala with the mainland near Masaka at Bukakata was commissioned by Kalangala Infrastructure Services (KIS), a company contracted by the Government of Uganda to assist in the provision of lifeline services to Bugala Island.
Trips from Entebbe to Kalangala and back are now taking place daily, just in time for the busy Easter weekend break.
The MV Kalangala ferry is reportedly leaves Entebbe daily at 2 p.m. and returns the next day at 11 a.m.
